Since 2007, École Centrale de Lyon has been continuously striving to improve the recruitment, career options and mobility of researchers, as conveyed by being a signatory to the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers.
The Charter and Code of Conduct advocate 40 tenets that boost the mobility and career paths of European researchers in four main areas:
The European Commission has charged every institute of higher education and research to push beyond these principles; accordingly, under the French presidency of the EU in 2008, it launched the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R) which encourages:
- The roll-out of a strategy on managing human resources in research.
- The development of practices and enhanced alignment with the recommendations stated in the European Charger for Researchers and the Code of Conduct.
Centrale Lyon obtained the HRS4R label in July 2020. This label provides the institute with greater visibility both within Europe and around the world. It also increases its attractiveness among researchers and gives impetus to pursue its activity in the framework of European research.
With a view to continuous improvement, École Centrale de Lyon carried out an internal evaluation of its HRS4R action plan in July 2022. This evaluation identified the actions carried out, those to be pursued and the new actions to be implemented over the next three years in order to progress in its human resources strategy for researchers. This update of the action plan is fully in line with the quality of work life approach and the 2030 strategy of the organisation, and contributed to the definition of the "open, transparent and merit-based" recruitment policy for researchers at Centrale Lyon.
