École Centrale de Lyon is home to a lush campus that is enlivened throughout the year by events open to all staff members. The institute conducts a number of important actions for improving work conditions.
Flourishing, environmentally-friendly and welcoming – our campus
The 17-hectare, tree-lined campus offers a unique work environment with many facilities. In particular, staff have access to university catering, sports facilities (sports hall, stadium, tennis courts, etc.), and the FabLab for the pursuit of personal and professional projects. Centrale Lyon has signed numerous partnerships with nearby establishments, which offer, for example, osteopathy sessions at Isostéo and cookery classes at Institut Paul Bocuse.
On the sustainable development side, École Centrale de Lyon has pledged to follow 25 Objective Earth commitments drawn up from the collective energies of all members of the institute. Waste sorting is performed across the campus, while student residences and staff living on premises have access to waste and compost facilities. The campus is pedestrianised and has over 250 parking spaces for bicycles. It is well served by public transport. A sustainable transport plan has been set up for staff members who carpool or commute by bike.
Broad access to knowledge
Many events are organised throughout the year to offer wider access to expertise free of charge: high-level lectures organised by lecturer-researchers, TEDx for students, access to joint courses at CHEL[s] and even a large cultural programme presented by the university library (exhibitions, museum tours, etc.).
The Michel Serres Library offers access to a wide selection of hard-copy and digital resources in the areas of engineering sciences, arts and literature, humanities and social sciences, economics, law and management, career orientation as well as languages and culture. The library also offers recreational activities (music CDs, music scores, tourist guides, video on demand, etc.).
An enriching work environment
École Centrale de Lyon offers its teachers, lecturers and researchers genuine resources to fully conduct their research with research platforms and facilities, some of which are unique in Europe. Furthermore, the institute has obtained the HRS4R label in recognition of its human resources strategy for researchers that encourages mobility for the development of research careers in Europe. Staff members also have access to the Erasmus+ programme and have the opportunity, if they so choose, to take on important cross-functional assignments for the institute. Currently, Centrale Lyon is in the process of drafting an action plan for professional gender equality.
Assisted career advancement
Every year, École Centrale de Lyon welcomes new staff members on a dedicated day to introduce them to the different work settings and all available services. Support measures have been set up to ensure members integrate smoothly and take account of any difficulties encountered.
The institute offers its staff a complete and varied training programme to update their knowledge base or acquire new skills during their career. Newly appointed lecturers are discharged from 32 tutorial hours and receive pedagogical-based training.
Working life is also improved by certain arrangements, such as the possibility to work remotely, and services like social assistance available round the clock.
A favourable social setting
The higher education institute includes social assistance services that can help employees and guide them during any personal difficulties.
Numerous social benefits are available to employees especially in the area of food service, accommodation, childcare and recreation. These can be granted by management or governmental departments. The institute notifies its employees of information through its Intranet.
As part of the PAS network, Centrale Lyon has entered into a collaboration with MGEN to assist staff members in their social protection procedures. MGEN ensures it is present on the grounds once every quarter with one of those being on the welcome day for new arrivals.
Finally, the staff association (APECLY) builds up the team spirit of members with numerous activities, such as events in campus sports halls and retreats for individuals or families.
