École Centrale de Lyon pursues an ambitious international policy based primarily on three actions:
- the encouragement on international mobility among its students,
- the hosting on its campus of many international students,
- the development of international research programmes.
This openness to the world seeks to enrich its students’ personal lives, promote the education and research of the institute and support businesses that employ our students in the era of globalisation.
An experience abroad for at least three months is compulsory to obtain an engineering degree at École Centrale de Lyon. It can be spent at a university or in a company. The majority of students, in fact, spend at least four months abroad.
Furthermore, the institute welcomes many international students to its campus every year. Almost 400 international students are accepted every year to the engineering programme (via entrance exam, double degree, exchange), a master’s programme and doctoral studies.
The international policy of École Centrale de Lyon has advanced thanks to its reliance on strong international research collaborations and on partnerships with the Écoles Centrale Group. As part of the Erasmus + Programme, the European Commission issued the Erasmus Charter for Higher Education 2021-2027 to École Centrale de Lyon. The institute, alongside other institutes in Lyon, participates in the University of Lyon international policy.
Bolstered by its experience and success, École Centrale de Lyon is ramping up its internationalisation in the areas of education and research. The institute’s capacity to welcome international students is also increasing. The double-degree programmes defined under the criteria of the T.I.M.E. network represent the pre-eminent programmes for international exchanges. Several options are offered to our own and hosted students: placements in laboratories or companies, an academic semester or year, courses with an emphasis on general engineering aspects or research and partnerships with companies. Three international master’s degrees involving specialist scientific knowledge and taught in English are also available.
Beyond the personal enrichment for students provided by an international experience, we are convinced that knowledge of another culture and training in another country will confer students with inestimable skills for companies operating at a European or global level.
The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Region actively supports École Centrale de Lyon’s international policy.
