Transitions at the heart of strategy
The School's strategy places major transitions at the heart of its two key missions:
- Multi-disciplinary training programs incluing major transitions challenges
- Research that provides answers to societal challenges : sober technologies, energy transition, environmental preservation and decarbonization.
Centrale Lyon adopted its Sustainable Development & Corporate Social Responsibility Master Plan at its Board of Directors meeting on 4 July 2024. The SD SD&RSE is made up of 31 sheets grouped into 9 work areas which are in line with the 17 Sustainable Development Objectives and the 4 areas of the Institution's strategy.
A management team and a commission dedicated to major transitions
To ensure that sustainable development and social responsibility (SDSR) are an integral part of all our actions, the major transitions development department (DDGT), a member of the school's Executive Committee, was created in 2022. It ensures that major transitions are taken into account in the development and monitoring of the school's strategy, projects and actions.
The DDGT is made up of a director, a SDSR project manager and two teacher-researchers responsible for CSR and digital transition. It relies on the SDSR commission, made up of staff and student representatives, and on working groups to draw up, implement and monitor its action plan.
The main actions of the 2023-2024 action plan:
- Update of carbon footprint and elaboration of transition plan
- Self-diagnosis with a view to obtaining the SDSR label
- Drafting of the "Sustainable Development - Social and Environmental Responsibility" Master Plan 2024-2030
- Carbon footprint calculation platform made available to students and staff
- Development of new cross-disciplinary initial and continuing training programs on SDSR with academic partners on the Lyon-Saint-Étienne site.
Objectif Terre : Our ecological and social commitments
Since 2019, the school has drawn up an action plan to organize and evaluate its approach: "Objectif Terre".
25 ecological and societal commitments are the result of collective, participatory work by all the school's stakeholders, including for example:
1. Reduce our energy consumption by 15% by 2025 and by 40% by 2030
2. Reduce our greenhouse gas emissions by 30% by 2025 and 60% by 2030.
4. Increase the share of renewable energies to 50% by 2025 and 70% by 2030.
7. Adopt a HEQ approach for 100% of our real estate projects.
8. Include social and environmental criteria in all our public procurement contracts.
10. Strengthen our actions in favor of parity and diversity
21. Adopt a cross-functional and systemic approach to the ecological and solidarity-based transition in our corporate project.
In April 2020, the Centrale Lyon entered the "Sustainable Development and Social Responsibility" ranking of Times Higher Education's. The THE Impact Ranking is a great reward for all those involved at the school who are working on these issues.
