With a PhD in Geotechnical Engineering and a graduate from Tor Vergata University in Rome, Francesco Froiio is Assistant Professor at École Centrale de Lyon since 2007. His research focuses primarily on the multiscale modelling of granular materials: from the grain scale, by discrete numerical simulation tools, up to the continuum scale, through the definition of appropriate constitutive models and by the introduction of generalised continuum models such as the Cosserat continua or second gradient continua. His teaching activity covers a number of subjects in civil engineering (reinforced concrete, soil mechanics) and in initial and advanced training in mechanics (rational mechanics, continuum mechanics, structural mechanics, constitutive modelling).
